2001 : Development Administration Circular Letter No.1 of 2001 - Guideline for Data Custodianship
OBJECTIVE
The optimised usage of land-related data depends on the ability to obtain and integrate various types of data from different sources. The source of the data must be easily identifiable to make it easier for users to obtain data relevant to their needs. In order to manage and share land-related data more effectively, the National Infrastructure for Land Information System (NaLIS) was established. This infrastructure enables users to retrieve land-related data through online access. Since data retrieved through NaLIS come from various sources, it is crucial to determine data custodianship to ensure accountability of the agency supplying the data.
DATA CUSTODIANSHIP CONCEPT
For purpose of guideline, data custodianship is a method of ensuring accountability towards the management and maintenance of land related data in the public sector. Custodianship does not mean absolute ownership but trustee on behalf of the government.
