About MaCGDI
To fulfill the need for land and geospatial information for the country's planning and development, on 23rd September 1987 the Cabinet Ministers has officially established the development of the Land Information System while deliberating upon the 5OO/l597/87 Bill paper. In a Cabinet meeting on 4th October 1989, following from a study conducted by Central Board for Real Estate Data, Sweden (CFD), the development of a Federal Land Information System was suggested, from which result the Ministry of Land and Cooperative Development has initiated the development of the National infrastructure for Land Information System (NaLIS).
In 1994/1995, a local company was appointed to conduct a feasibility study on the establishment of NaLlS.
In 1997, the Public Service Progress Circular 1/1997 Bill (PKPA 1/1997) outlined the objectives, establishment principles, responsibilities and duties of the land related agencies and the committee members for the development and implementation of NALIS at both Federal and State levels.
Along with the placement of officers and staff through the Employment Warrant 227 Bill in November 1997, a unit called NALIS Secretariat was established within the IT Department at the Ministry of Land and Cooperative Development (MLCD). The scope and duty of the unit are to carry out the development of geospatial data infrastructure encompassing policies, standards, technology, rules, law, safety and support for data preparation in agencies at Federal, State, and Local Authorities at all levels.
Against the wide scope and duty of the unit, the Malaysian Centre for Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MaCGDI) was established to replace NaLIS Secretariat in December 2002.
On 27th March 2004, MaCGDI was subsum. More information click here.
