Development of Fundamental Dataset for National Geospatial Data Centre (NGDC) and State Geospatial Data Centre (SGDC)

The National Geospatial Data Centre (NGDC) and State Geospatial Data Centre (SGDC) are supporting projects that are part of MyGDI initiative.  Creation of these data centres includes implementation of the MS1759 standards that are established under MyGDI in the fundamental datasets, which subsequently are accessible through MyGDI Metadata Explorer in Malaysia Geoportal.
NGDC covers the fundamental datasets at the national level while SGDC covers the fundamental datasets at state levels.  The development of fundamental dataset is to address the issue in the currently available geospatial data that could not be compatibly used across applications due to inconsistent topology and incomplete attribute values besides noncompliance with MS1759. 
The fundamental datasets in NGDC will enable users to use and carry out analysis reliably in GIS applications due to the ensured data integrity.  The fundamental datasets that will become the content of NGDC/SGDC are the important elements that can be used as the basis for development of other geospatial data. 

MaCGDI is currently developing all the themes of the fundamental datasets as specified in MS1759.  These are Aeronautical, Built Environment, Demarcation, Geology, Hydrography, Hypsography, Soil, Transportation, Utility, and Vegetation, besides satellite imageries.

The deliverables in the projects are:

  • NGDC geodatabase at a scale of 1: 50 000
  • SGDC geodatabase at a scale of 1: 25 000
  • LGDC geodatabase at a scale  of 1: 1 000 to 1:10 000

The reference coordinates are in Rectified Skew Orthomorphic projection with Geocentric Datum Malaysia 2000.
