SDI for Natural Resources and Environmental Management

Geospatial information touches many aspects of works in the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment (NRE) due to the nature of fields that are involved in the Ministry. MyGDI, the Malaysian SDI, enables the executives in the NRE to use geospatial information through an application called Geoinformation for Natural Resource and Environment (G4NRE).

MyGDI puts together geospatial data from various data sources into G4NRE to be used by the executives in the Ministry in their works that include decision making, planning, project and program implementation, monitoring, and enforcement.

Through standardization, a focus in MyGDI to enable data sharing consistently, the data can be used in applications such as G4NRE. The geospatial data that come from the diverse sources can be accessed quickly and accurately. The infrastructure that has been established in MyGDI also facilitates the respective agencies to keep and update the data, which subsequently can be accessed by others including the users of G4NRE. Similarly, agencies in the Ministry can update the data that are under their authority therefore other users in other agencies will be able to use them as input in their works.
