MyGDI as the Malaysian SDI is an initiative to enable the use of geospatial data readily. Many aspects in decision making process, management, administration, enforcement and policy formulation that are carried out by executives in the public sector involves the use of geospatial data. MyGDI puts together geospatial data from various agencies into an application, known as Geoinformation for Executive (G4E) to assist the executives to carry out their work. |
| |
| Therefore, MyGDI enables geospatial data to be used across agencies through standardization and the data can be used consistently in applications such as G4E. The issues that can be addressed through G4E, among others, include land management, land use planning, forest management, environmental management and monitoring, infrastructure and public amenities planning and management, social and economic analysis, and disaster management. |

| Given the nature of the work carried out by the executives, it can be understood that the needed geospatial data that come from diverse sources have to be accessed quickly and accurately. Besides this, the data has to be up-to-date. Accordingly, the infrastructure that has been established under MyGDI initiative facilitates the respective agencies to keep and update the data to be accessed by others to use. Through this infrastructure, assisted by G4E, the users can therefore access the latest geospatial data to be used in their work. |
