Geographical Names Database (MyGeoname)

Geographical Names Database is the data bank of geographical names. The purpose is to store names, locations, historical backgrounds and gazette notifications that have authoritative records available for government and public use. The application can be accessed via internet. Geographical names are used every day to describe our surroundings and to tell others where we have been or where we plan to go. The functions are:
To expedite the process of developing databases for geographical names, the government has established National Geographical Name Committee (JKNG) which was approved by the cabinet on 11th September 2002. JKNG, then formed a committee called Working Group on Geographical Name Database and Web Gazetteer on 11th March 2003, led by MaCGDI. |
