Director`s Message

Welcome to Malaysia Geoportal, the official portal for SDI Malaysia. This geoportal is one of the components in MyGDI initiative that has the aim to enable the discovery of and access to geospatial data and services in Malaysia. MyGDI is the Malaysian National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) that establishes the standards for geospatial data sharing in the country.

Through Malaysia Geoportal users can discover information and services related to geospatial data by accessing the MyGDI Metadata Catalog@MyGDI Explorer. Users can also discover documents that include policies, metadata, framework and standards as well as links to related resources.

Various countries including Malaysia are implementing NSDI to address issues that are inherent in geospatial industry. Malaysian Centre for Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MaCGDI) that was established in December 2002 plays the roles to implement the NSDI in Malaysia (MyGDI) thus spearheading the geospatial industry in the country to materialise the benefits of geospatial information. By disseminating geospatial data and services that apply the standards, MyGDI aims to ensure the consistency in the use of the geospatial data.

The current progress in MyGDI has emphasized on content standards that include land parcel identifier, features and attributes codes and geographic names. Beyond this, MyGDI are working towards the implementation of access standards and exchange standards to establish service-oriented MyGDI. This includes making the Metadata Catalog to be a registry of services for geospatial data that are maintained by data providers and this registry will be accessible by users’ applications.

Malaysia Geoportal reflects the success of the implementation of MyGDI that among other factors include effective management of framework issues such as data, procedures, and technology as well as the supporting institutional environment. In this regards, on behalf of MaCGDI, I wish to highlight my appreciation for the continuous cooperation by all agencies from federal, state and local levels that is invaluable towards the successful implementation of MyGDI.
