In the context of GDI, capacity’s buliding developments are composed of a combination of Institutions (1), Policy (2), Standard (3), Technology (4), and Human Resources (5). Institution can be defined as the involvement between government agencies, private and university which aims to enhance the use of geospatial data infrastructure (GDI) and the GIS to improve government service delivery system. The development of policies and standard must be parallel at every agency’s level so that the data geospatial’s sharing can be done easily and vividly to ensure the use of data geospatial between agencies can standardized.
To create awareness and knowledge about Geospatial Data Infrastructure (GDI) is one of capacity building needed to produce competitive human high success up to the global GIS. Under the human capital development, capacity building of human resources which involves taking long learning, conducts briefings, formal GIS courses, and job training both in the country level and oversea.
Besides that, various workshops were held to support the use and sharing of geospatial data among agencies under the NRE, federal and state levels. Other relevant activities include the following courses organized by the National Institute of Lands and Survey (INSTUN), Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) and the private sector. Apart from the courses, activities involving the development of capacities including GIS Conference and Exhibition at the National level (NGIS) as a bi-annual event aims to increase awareness and knowledge among government agencies and the public about the capability of GIS in various fields.
