Malaysia Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MyGDI) is an initiative by the government to develop a geospatial data infrastructure to enhance the awareness about data availability and improve access to geospatial information. This can be fulfilled by facilitating data sharing among participating agencies. MyGDI, as the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for Malaysia, is a geospatial data infrastructure that comprises of policies, standards, technology research and development and skilled human resources.
To advise the Government of Malaysia in the formulation and implementation of policies related to geospatial data affairs.
To act as a coordinating body for the development of geospatial data and geographic/geomatic information standards.
To serve as a technical reference centre for advisory services and consultancy related to the development and use of geospatial data.
To develop and coordinate MyGDI Clearinghouse activities.
To plan and implement human resource development programmes in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
To conduct various activities to promote MyGDI nationwide and encourage its use.
To serve as a Research and Development (R&D) centre for GIS.
To represent the interests of government agencies in forums and meetings related to geospatial data at the international level.
