About MyGDI

Malaysia Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MyGDI) is an initiative by the government to develop a geospatial data infrastructure to enhance the awareness about data availability and improve access to geospatial information. This can be fulfilled by facilitating data sharing among participating agencies. MyGDI, as the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for Malaysia, is a geospatial data infrastructure that comprises of policies, standards, technology research and development and skilled human resources.

 

To provide mechanism/ infrastructure to facilitate the utilisation and sharing of geospatial data among the agencies that use and supply the data
To encourage wider use of geospatial data at the state and national levels
To stimulate and enhance awareness about the value of geospatial data and the relevant technology
To contribute towards strengthening the development of national geospatial data through collaboration
To work together towards the development of strong national geospatial data

Access to geospatial data can be carried out online for the purpose of development planning and law enforcement.

Duplication of efforts in the collection and production of geospatial data can be avoided.

Standardisation of the use of policies and standards related to geospatial data.

Increased awareness and utilisation of geospatial data as well as diversification of value-added products.

Realisation of digital transformation and the digital economy.

Expansion of the local geospatial data industry.

Strengthening institutional capacity through human resource development programmes to produce knowledgeable worker  (K-Worker).

MyGDI Function

To advise the Government of Malaysia in the formulation and implementation of policies related to geospatial data affairs.

To act as a coordinating body for the development of geospatial data and geographic/geomatic information standards.


To serve as a technical reference centre for advisory services and consultancy related to the development and use of geospatial data.

To develop and coordinate MyGDI Clearinghouse activities.



To plan and implement human resource development programmes in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).


To conduct various activities to promote MyGDI nationwide and encourage its use.

To serve as a Research and Development (R&D) centre for GIS.



To represent the interests of government agencies in forums and meetings related to geospatial data at the international level.
